We headed out to the Coast early on Monday and were at the Whale Beach TH by 10 AM. We did the ups and downs to Indian Sands and back, then hiked back and drove over to Lone Ranch Beach for a long walk on the sand.
Then we headed down to Crescent City to check in at the Curly Redwood Lodge. The Good Harvest treated us well and did an excellent job on the cocktails. The wine glasses weren't full to the brim but within an 1/8 of an inch of it..
The next day we did the coastal hike to the overlook of the mouth of the Klamath River, with a stop off at Hidden Beach. Some good, stiff climbs. Dinner was more of the same.
On Wednesday morning, after a harbor tour, we did a half hour each way up the Boy Scout Trail, then headed for Stout Grove. We were surprised, on the way, to find the new trail to the Grove of the Titans was open. There is a new parking lot and toilets and they have spent $4 million on the trail. In many places there are gratings as platforms and stairways to protect the valley floor. The trees are huge and I am now told the Grove contains 5 of the 16 tallest trees in the world. One tree trunk seems 30 feet across. A must see.
We finished up with a detour to Taylor's Butcher Shop in Cave Junction for lunch and shopping.
A great time.
