We left Safeway at 8 AM and the trip to the TH was uneventful except for one teensy weensy mis-turn by the lead car. Despite that, we were on the trail by 9 AM and Wayne was on top by 11 AM. The rest of us summited between 11:15 and 11:30.
We had nice views from Shasta to Crater Lake from the old fire lookout spot at the end of the ridge. We could see a clear line of thunderheads from Shasta over to Klamath. As we started down around 12:15 a line of thunderheads began forming along the Mt. Ashland to Wagner Butte ridge and we had rolling thunder off and on as we descended but we did not see any lightning.
The temperature climbed from the high 60s into the mid-70s by lunch. The afternoon continued to warm as we made our way back to the TH where the temperature was 94oF.
Refreshment was taken at Caldera Tap house outside on the deck.
