Nine of us headed out to summit Wagner Butte. The sky was completely overcast and the air was in the high 40’s, so a bit colder than I wanted. The road to the trailhead was in good condition, so we began our assault by 10:15 AM.
This hike’s trail goes up at a steady pace, challenging, but doable. There was a good selection of flowers along the way, including white lilies, Indian Paintbrush, flax flowers, Calypso Orchids, along with both White and Purple Trilliums.
As we got closer to the summit, some of us were worried that the clouds, which seemed to be heading our way, would shroud our anticipated view. However, lunch turned out to be spectacular with some clouds in the distance, but great views of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Ashland, Pilot Rock, Mt. McLaughlin, Dutchman’s Peak (where we will be hiking later this summer), the Rogue Valley, Emigrant Lake and some of the snow covered Trinities.
Refreshments were taken at the Talent Pump House Burgers and Brews. It sure turned out to be a great hiking day.
