We had a good turnout on Monday for the hike on Upper Table Rock. Ten met at the Rite Aid parking lot and 8 more greeted us by the TH.

Billowing rain clouds covered the sky, but only intermittent showers fell on us.

The reworked trail with more gravel and added switchbacks near the top, made for a gentler gain and a big improvement over the slog up Lower Table Rock last month.

And, the trail was bright with the color of blooming Spring wildflowers. Heading up we saw, neon blue Hounds Tongue, Blue Dicks, pink Manzanita blossoms, Henderson's Fawn lilies (an upside down flower), white Woodland Star, Henderson's Shooting Star, bi-colored Shirts & Skirts, spectacular Red Bells or Scarlet Fritillary (Fritillaria recurva), shiny yellow Buttercups and yellow Violets, Mariposa Lily (Cats Ear) and Larkspur/Delphiniums.

After some rest at the top of the plateau, we started following the fence out to the cliff view and then across the moist plain towards the FAA VHF-VOR airways beacon, the white-pointed landmark.

Along Meadowlark Lane (aka, the trail) we saw dazzling clusters of Goldfield flowers (known individually as Gold Star), white blossoming Buck Brush, delicate purple Grass Widows, and the star of the Table Rocks, the white Dwarf Meadowfoam growing in the wet marshy areas (they only grow on the Table Rocks).

After our group photo in front of the airways beacon; we headed north on the improved road past the flooded Frog Pond and out to our lunch spot view of Sam's Valley. We waited through a brief cloud burst until the overhead sun broke through and ended the shower. We had a relaxing lunch enjoying the view of the Valley.

The roundtrip on Upper Table Rock covered 8.2 miles with 900' of gain up the trail.

We had a few showers and a little wind but overall it was a fine day.

Happy Trails,
Rich
