Monday arrived at LTR with clouds replacing the fog, and twelve gathered for the hike. Morning showers greeted us in the parking lot so we hustled up the trail hoping for some shelter under the trees.
Conditions on top were much the same as on Friday with perhaps more standing water on the landing stripe.
But the difference was a rapid change in the weather at about 11 AM when the wind blew in rain clouds. For the next half an hour we hiked through rain blowing sideways from headwinds of 30 to 50 mph! Finally, we found shelter in the Oak forest where the big trees help to block the wind. We had lunch and passed around the chocolate to the remaining members, some had headed back early because of the intense rain and wind.
As we started back, the sun came out and the wind and rain died down and there was a rainbow over the trail heading down.
The weather-shortened hike was 5 miles and again 870' of gain.
