Stein Butte 5-17-17

A group of 8 hikers started this steep, 9+ mile hike to find great views.  The trail was in good shape and we saw many flowers along the way.  There were also a few dogwood trees in bloom.  At around 4,000 feet we found fields of small yellow flowers, along with a few plants of poison oak, who did not understand that it was too high for them to exist.

The summit had outstanding 360 degree views, with clear skies and snow covered peaks.  The group sang “Happy Birthday” to one of our hikers.  After a leisurely lunch, we headed back down to the cars, taking refreshments at Boomtown Cafe, where we discovered that their fryer was out of order (BOOO).  Thus, only beer and peanuts were consumed before heading back to Ashland.

Overall it turned out to be a challenging hike with outstanding views, with some flower power along the way.
