Stein Butte 10-9-19

Photos by Dan, Keeley and Linda

Twelve of us headed past Applegate Lake to hike to the top of Stein Butte.  It was cold (mid to high 40’s) in the morning, so we needed to get hiking quickly to keep warm.  The trail was in good shape, plus we learned that a local motor biking club maintains the trail.  Yes, they get to use the trail legally but it still was in great shape.

Although there was a lot of hiking in the forest, there were ridges along the way with great views of the valleys on each side.  There were only a few fall colors on display, but the views helped distract us from the continuous uphill hike.

A Maria lunch (at least 30 minutes) was in order at the top, given the clear sky and wonderful views.  We reluctantly headed back down to the cars and some of us headed to Boomtown for refreshments.  This turned out to be a great hike and we will keep it on the schedule next year.
