Little Grayback to Squaw Peak 5-26-21

Eleven of us headed out to the Applegate to hike up Little Grayback to Squaw Peak.  This is one of our tougher hikes covering 11 miles and climbing about 2,500 vertical feet.

The day was clear and starting temperatures were fine, but as the day ended it was 77 degrees and we were all happy to be mostly in shade during the last couple of miles.

As we neared the old fire lookout, we noticed a car parked nearby.  Turns out someone had rented the lookout for 3 nights and was enjoying his views.  We stayed outside, but did use his decks for shade and ability to sit down during lunch.  He did take out picture as we started to leave and seemed just fine with our visit.

Little Grayback is know for it’s ticks and this writer found 3 by the time he got home.  Also, the trail was well covered with poison oak, so we felt like mother nature was trying to tell us something.  Overall, all enjoyed the hike, despite some of its challenges.
