Ashland Hiking Home

On Wednesday we had 9 hikers come out to hike to Little Pilot Peak and Boccard Point. It was in the mid 60s which is quite different from the hike last year when we walked through a few inches of snow.

We started along the PCT and made our way through some very lush and overgrown forest. It is obvious the PCT hikers have not yet been though the area. There were some downed trees, but it was not too hard to get around.

We made the turn to go up to Little Pilot Peak and saw an abundance of Brown's Peony. I don't think I have ever seen this many. When we got to the top, we enjoyed the views of the valley, Pilot Rock and Mount Ashland with some snow still on it. After a short break and a snack, we headed back to our cars.

Once we gathered there, we headed up the Boccard Point trail. We saw a couple of hikers making their way back down. As we continued along, we caught up to another group of hikers from Ashland. There were around 8 or 9 people. One of the pictures shows everyone scattered all over the area.

We had views of Mount Shasta and could see where Irongate Reservoir once was. We enjoyed our lunch and then Nanci passed around some chocolate she brought from Spain (I think).

We headed back down the trail and back to our cars arriving around 2pm. We had hiked around 6 miles with about 1200 feet of gain.
