Ostrich Peak 1-20-16

We had temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s under overcast skys with the occasional sun break.  We decided to do the hike CW today to honor and remember Bev and Hank's experience from last year.

The trail had patches of snow in places above 4,000'.  In the morning, the snow was hard enough to support our body weight when we had to cross it, but by the afternoon it had softened up and we were sinking in places.

After lunch we came down off Ostrich Peak and made the turn onto Ashland Mine Road OK. However, when we got to the next turn we found that someone had piled slash all over the trail. Well, as it turned out, we had turned at exactly the right point but had, for inexplicable reasons, decided to head off into the slash pile instead of just taking the open old logging road about 30o  to the right. After a bit of thrashing about we bushwhacked back to the old road and continued on down without further ado.

Refreshment was taken at the Brickroom.
