It was bright and sunny in the morning with temperatures in the 50s. The trail is in relatively good shape with the buck brush nicely trimmed back. Unfortunately, there is more damage from horse usage with places where the edge of the trail has been broken off.
The poison oak is beginning to leaf out but it won't be an issue for another few weeks or so. The Manzanita are beginning to flower and were quite fragrant and wildflowers are also beginning to pop out.
We lunched just below the summit of Baldy Peak in warm sunshine and with no wind. The three fitter hikers climbed the final 100' after lunch before we all headed down. As the afternoon wore on the clouds came in and we had full overcast but no rain for the rest of the day.
Refreshment was taken at Boomtown. We decided not to call ahead to get the fryer started because we reasoned that this would reduce our peanut consumption time.
