We had fairly thick smoke most of the way as we drove down. It began to clear up around Weed and was sunny and clear in the Black Butte and Shasta areas.
Temperatures were in the high 60s and low 70s. We had lunch atop Gray Butte and then completed the loop around by The Gate and the old snow bowl. Lots of people on the trails, perhaps due to smoke in other areas.
We took refreshment at The Goat, ordering garlic fries in honor of Annie and TWO plates of onion rings in honor of Margita.
The drive back was clear until around Hilt when we began to come back into the smoke.
