Mt. McLoughlin 9-5-12

We had a better day than expected. We were concerned about possible smoke from the Red Buttes, Klamath and Lassen fires. Had a bit of smoke at the start, more at mid-day and then it blew out in the afternoon.

About 4 hours up and we were on top at about 12:15. No snow in the caldera, but we did see an ice field below the summit on the north side that we had not seen before. About 3 and 1/2 hours down. Very dry. Lots of dust today.

The trailhead is a Day Use Fee trailhead, so remember to bring your Golden Eagle Passport.
