Ashland Hiking Home

Four of us headed towards Diamond Lake to climb to the top of Mt. Bailey, which is about 8,400 feet tall and to escape the heat.  Since we only had 1 car, Sherry agreed to take her truck and she drove to the trailhead, which is not for the faint of heart.  We were worried about getting caught in a lightning storm most of the hike, but all went well.

Lunch on top was a delight.  We had good views of Diamond Peak, Mt. Bachelor, Mt Scott and Mt. McLoughlin.  We also saw a fire that was about 25 miles NW of our position.  It seemed to be growing, based on the growing smoke cloud.

About the time we started to head down to the cars a large dark cloud formed within 5 minutes right above us, but it behaved itself until we were out of the area.  It was amazing to see how fast the cloud materialized out of nowhere.  On the way home we did see some lightning but by then we had our ice cream at Becky’s and really did not care.  It was a tough but another great Wednesday adventure.
