Turned out to be a good day for a hike in the high country. We were in bright sunshine and above the fog and clouds in the valleys below.
However, we did not make it to our scheduled Wagner Butte Lookout destination. Sometime between 3:30 PM Tuesday afternoon, and 8:30 AM Wednesday morning, when we showed up, the Forest Service had closed the gate on FS 20 at the back end of the ski area parking lot. Probably trying to avoid problems with the big storm forecast to roll in Wednesday evening.
So, we made lemonade. We walked on FS 20 to our original TH destination and then headed from there up to McDonald Peak. Then, back to FS 20 and on to an early lunch atop Siskiyou Peak. After lunch we headed down and came back via the PCT.
Stopped at Callahan's on the way home for beer etc. Service and food were much improved since our last visit.
