Mt. Thielsen 9-10-14

The drive to the TH was an uneventful 1:45 for those proceeding directly. On the way we saw a bit of smoke in the Prospect area from the 790 fire along with signs pointing to a firefighting camp.

Temperature upon arrival at the TH was about 60oF. During the day it warmed up into the low 80s, which was a big overshoot of the Point Forecast which had a high of 61oF.

Easy walk up. We did see smoke to the south in the Crater Lake area. With that exception the sky was largely smoke free. We had nice views to the north of Bachelor and the Sisters although peaks to the south were evidently lost in the smoke.

We had lunch above the PCT crossing at about the 7,740' level, still shy of the top by about 1,500' and 1.5 miles.

After lunch a renegade faction continued upward for several hundred more feet in flagrant disrespect of By-Law 1.1 of no uphill after lunch.

On the way back we stopped for refreshment at the Rogue River Lodge.  We have won over Rachel but we still have a ways to go with Kat.

The drive home was also 1:45 for those proceeding directly.
