Mt. Bradley Trail to Peak 5673T

Eight of us were ready to go on a hike, after being shut out 3 weeks in a row due to smoke.  So we were eager to find a place to hike.  We headed to Northern California to hike Duck Lakes as planned, but noticed that the smoke levels were rising.  After some discussion, we changed the plan to hike the Castle Lake / Mt. Bradley trail, heading towards the Mount Bradley Lookout.  This was a hike completed in September of 2013.

When we arrived at the trailhead, the smoke had decreased a lot and things were looking good.  The beginning was up a steep hill, which was more of a dry creek bed (boulders and all) than a nice trail.  However, the views were great and we continued until reaching a great lunch spot, with views of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Eddy and the "back side" of Castle Crags.  We then headed back to the cars for refreshments at the Mt. Shasta Lodge.

This hike has a lot of up, then down then up again type hiking and the last pitch going back up and over a 500' ridge was a killer for many of us.  Think going up the boulder field near the top of Mt. McLoughlin but now doing it at the end of the hike when you are very tired.  My guess is that this hike might not be repeated for a few more years, if ever.  The beer and fries were really appreciated.
