On Wednesday we had 4 hikers come out to hike Kerby Peak. We started up the trail at 9:45 AM and it was 70° That is pretty warm for this hike that has so much elevation gain in such a short distance.
We saw some great flowers blooming that we had not seen on other hikes yet this year. My favorite is Prince's Pine. We also saw Twin Flowers and Sugar Sticks
We took our snack break at the rock outcropping and commented how disappointed we were that there were so many clear-cut areas that we could see. We then continued on the trail and enjoyed each time we were in the shade.
As we were heading up towards the last switchbacks, we could see Mount McLoughlin and thought it looked like it was floating in the air due to the haze and the snow. We came up to the Brewers Spruce trees, which is one of the rarest on the continent. We also saw a few blooming Lewisa succulents.
We made our last push up to the top and enjoyed a nice lunch with fabulous 360° views. We enjoyed some chocolate then headed back down the trail. On the way up, we thought we were seeing Washington Lily that had not yet bloomed, but on our descent, we realized it was a smaller Tiger Lily because we saw 3 or 4 blooming.
We reached our cars at around 2:45 and had hiked 7 miles with 2818 feet of elevation gain.
