Grizzly Peak 11-26-18

Photos by Barry H. and Rich

We took advantage of a pleasant Fall day to hike the loop atop Grizzly Peak before predicted rain and snow closes down the mountain until Spring. 15 hearty hikers set out from Rite Aid's breezy parking lot. We arrived in the GP lot in the cool shade of the mountain. And headed up the trail that was in part muddy and icy. But as we reached the top the sun broke through the clouds and warmed us with mild temperatures in the 50s and no wind.

Our lookouts gave us great views of Emigrant Lake, Pilot Rock, Shasta, Mt Ashland, the Rogue Valley, the back of Roxy Ann mountain, and both Lower and Upper Table Rocks. Some of our newer hikers were experiencing the thrill of the views from Grizzly Peak for the first time.

We took a long leisurely lunch from the flat rock outcropping looking down into Ashland. Then we continued around the loop to the rock pile summit where we took the group picture.

After descending back to the cars and doing our best to knock the mud off our boots, we gathered for refreshments at Caldera.

Lots of happy hikers, glad they could get the hike in before the weather changes to Winter.
