Lost Creek Falls and Grizzly Peak 6-3-19

Photos by Jerry

After signing in two new members of the AHG, our group of 12 headed up DIM Road under sunny skies. We would repeat the Wednesday's group doubleheader hike from a few weeks back, but on Alex's suggestion we did the short hike to Lost Creek Falls first.

We followed Francie's directions and did the three lefts after the cow sign. We found parking off the road near the trail head. As soon as we started the 1.6 mile hike to the falls we saw wildflowers blooming everywhere. It's a gentle hike through forest and meadows with a few small creek crossings.

Lost Creek Falls is breathtaking in a lush green grotto. It flows over solid rock and drops 100 feet into a pool, then drops another 50 feet into the creek. We viewed the falls from the cliffs down creek and took many pictures.
Then it was time to head back to our cars for the short drive over to the Grizzly Peak lot.

Temps were mild in the 60s and sunny with little to no wind. Again we plenty of flower sightings heading up the trail to the top. Many Triliums in white, pink and purple blooms. Along with many other varieties including a few wild peonys which caused our flower lady to go wild.

We had clear views of Shasta, the Trinity Alps, and Mt Ashland as we stopped for lunch on our usual flat stair step rocks. Then it was back down the trail to complete our loop and turn down to the parking lot.

Another refreshing day of hiking and in the past three weeks we have managed to view five waterfalls.

Happy Trails,
Rich
