Frank Hill Road and Trail 3-3-25

Under partly sunny skies, thirteen lucky hikers headed up Frank Hill Road to test their hill-climbing fitness.  The first hill is a short but steep climb 1/2 mile from the Ashland Mine Road/Frank Hill Road intersection, ending in a long level section with expansive views of the southern Rogue Valley.

A mile or more after the paved road ends in dirt, the second climb begins, longer but less steep, to the first overlook (see group shot) at the 2-mile, 600 elevation mark.  Then the third long climb heads up a muddy track to the site of two ancient abandoned trailers with great views across the valley at the 1,000 foot, 3-mile mark.  A few hikers opted to stay put with sun and views while seven of us bushwacked the final 400 foot climb to the top of the ridge for a congratulatory photo - no idea where Randy found the chair!

We all headed back down to my place  where we gathered inside for delicious potluck goodies and a photo show of George and Liz's January Tanzania safari adventure.  6-1/2 RT mileage, 1,400 ft elevation gain.

Respectfully submitted, Substitute hike leader Liz
