Collings Mountain 3-21-22

Photos by John and Liz

The day was gloomy as we headed out to Applegate Lake. Fortunately I knew where the 2nd TH was just before the campground. The numbered sign is well off the road and on the hill.

The trail was in great shape, with some minor deadfalls. It looked as if some huge winds had come through, with small trees blown down above the trail. The old growth forest is fairly open and attractive.

The trail has about 1,550 feet of ascent in just over 3 miles, and some steep pitches. There are some good views over the lake and there was a lot of snow on the higher mountains..

We climbed steadily until the summit and found some rocks and logs to sit on for lunch. It warmed up as we hiked so we shed layers on the way, but no rain.

After the hike we enjoyed wine and cheese at Kerr Manor.
