Castle Crags to Castle Dome 3-3-21

Photos by Barry and Keeley

We drove into Northern California to hike up to the Castle Crags Dome today.  The weather was perfect, starting at 42 degrees and ending up at 60 degrees by lunch time.

There was some snow on the top 3/4 mile portion, but we all managed to not slip down into the trees below.  Lunch by the dome was very relaxed and enjoyable.

This is one of my favorite hikes, mostly due to the great views once you get about half way.  We could see Mt. Shasta and all the rocks associated with the Castle Crags.  However, although the hike is just over 5 miles and 2,000 vertical feet, getting to the top is not an easy task with some large rock and bouldering effort needed.

We all had a wonderful time and hope to do this again next year.
