Castle Crags to Indian Springs via the Flume Trail 4-4-18

Six of us headed up the Flume Trail to get to Indian Springs at the base of Castle Dome for the first time since 2013.  The sky was overcast at the beginning, but the sun would peak out from time to time and it was a great day to be outdoors and hiking.

Several of the creek crossings that used to be challenging, now have bridges installed, so there were no “slipping into the water” issues this time.  To our pleasant surprise, the hike had only 2,000 vertical feet (vs the 3,000 posted), so all made it to the springs to the wonderful lunch spot.  The springs were flowing and many of the rocks were covered with a heavy blanket of dark green moss.  After a leisurely lunch in the shade, we headed back to the cars.  Since it was over 6.5 miles up to lunch, we took Bob’s Hat trail down which was a bit over 2.5 miles down.

Tired but happy, we too refreshments at the Jefferson Roadhouse in Yreka.
