The first Monday hike to Bolt Mountain featured a beautiful Fall colors drive there, frost on the trail in the beginning forest, and sun on top for lunch.
We left Ashland at 8:30 and met Randy and Gary at the TH parking area about an hour later. We had sun breaking through the morning clouds helping to warm the starting temp from 35 to near 50 on the summit.
The trail up is multi-use, but we had it to ourselves on Monday. It's a well designed trail not too steep a grade although you climb nearly 1,300' to the top. The trail is rocky at times with plenty of green Serpentine rocks to negotiate.
By 11:30 our party of seven was on top of Bolt enjoying 360o views of surrounding mountains in all directions. We had an early lunch and Randy shared chocolates and almond roca from the Josephine County Chocolate Festival at the Fairgrounds.
The hike is 6.8 miles RT with 1,258' of gain.
Back down the mountain, we discussed how to get to downtown Grants Pass, then stopped for refreshments at the Weekend Beer Co.
