Seven of us started out bundled up for a chilly, foggy hike up Bolt Mountain. Portions of the trail’s rocky ascent were coated with a slick glaze, which disappeared as our elevation gain carried us above the fog. By 11:30, we were warmed by the sunshine and peeling off our outer layers. These wardrobe adjustments provided a delightful opportunity to admire the sunny mountain views, with a glowing white blanket of fog covering the valley below.

When we reached the summit of Bolt Mountain, we enjoyed lunch in the warm sunshine while taking in the beautiful views. The group finished the hike invigorated by a warm, sunny, and uneventful descent back down the mountain to the cars.

What an uplifting day—to go from 31 degrees in the fog to 48 degrees in the sunshine.
