Boccard Point 6-21-17

Sixteen hikers set out on a new hike for the group, led by Sherry Wiegel.  Many of us were worried about the weather at the beginning, for as we drove up highway 66, the clouds were low and visibility looked grim in the mountains.  However has we approached the trail head, the clouds parted and the views were perfect.  The weather ended up being ideal, starting in the mid 60’s and ending in the mid 70’s, with a slight breeze to keep us just the right tempurature.

We took a short side hike up to Little Pilot Peak for incredible views, then back to the trail and up to Boccard Point.  The spring flowers were still out in force, so there was much enjoyment as we hiked to the top.  Flowers included lupine, columbine, larkspur, corn lilies and lots of wild onion in the sunshine.

After a leisurely lunch, doing our best to enjoy the views than included Mt. Ashland, Mt. Eddie, Mt. Shasta and at times - Mt. McLoughlin, we headed back down the trail and took refreshments at Caldera Brewing Company.  I think we will do this again next year.  Thanks to Sherry for her great leadership and picking a wonderful hike.
