A funny thing happened on the way to the hike. I was asked about a hike on the page following the description of our hike - Abbott Butte. I explained we would pass the turn off for it on our way to where we were planning to hike. I said it was to an old fire tower and quite a bit more elevation gain and a little more length than our planned hike. I also explained that it was off of a 10 mile dirt road. It was suggested to hike that instead. It was a unanimous vote so that is what all five of us did today.
There were thin strips of light snow in several places along the way. We enjoyed lunch under the watch tower. We placed bets on when we were going to get back to the car and beat all estimates by a half hour. Everyone enjoyed the hike. On our drive back we stopped to look at the salmon spawning at the bridge about 1/2 a mile up Crowfoot Road. We then proceeded home through Medford’s rush hour.
