Summit and Campbell Lakes 7-23-14

Photos by Bev, John and Lynn, Track by Keeley

The drive down took us 90 minutes and it was 63o when we arrived at the TH. We picked up some sun as the 10 of us headed up the Shackleford Trail, shedding outer layers as it warmed up.

As we approached Summit Lake for lunch we hiked up into a cloud and the temperature dropped to 52o. Lunch was in a chilly fog with no visual hint of the granite cliffs across the water.

So, it was a cold lunch, with limited rest, before we headed on to Campbell Lake, then off to the Richard "shortcut" and back to the cars. The weather improved on the way back. Campbell Lake had partial sun and a couple of decent photo ops, while the lower part of the trail was full sun.

The workers in the photo are from the California Conservation Corps and they were building raised pathways in areas where there's apparently lots of runoff. Nice bunch of people. There were three or four such areas that they were working on while we were there. They brought in horses. Lots of manure on the trail, which we have now re-named Dung Trail.

General opinion was this is a good hike and that we should do it again.
