Cold Springs TH to Margurette Lake 11-4-20

Six of us headed up the Cold Springs Trail in route to Trapper and Margurette Lakes, going north past our normal loop hike in this area.  We started out in an area burned extensively from a forest fire in the fall of 2017.  We hiked the trail when it first opened to see the total destruction in the area.

As we passed the burned area (about 1.5 miles long) we headed in to a normal forested area, which gave us a better understanding of before and many years after a fire.  We passed the Heavenly Twin Lakes and continued north, past several other lakes, before reaching Trapper Lake.  This is a spectacular and very large lake for the area.  The we continued on for another 1/4 mile to Margurette Lake for lunch.  This is the best way to reach these lakes, given the creek crossings that are challenging even this late in the year, if you go via the Cherry Creek Trail.

It was a perfect day for a hike and probably the last trip to this area, since the forecast is for snow starting on Friday through the next week.
