Ashland Hiking Home

Eight of us left the Rogue Valley and headed up to the Sky Lakes Wilderness area to complete an 11 mile hike to Margurette Lake.  The air was clean and the skies blue with a 55 degree temperature.  This is a long but fairly flat hike through a 2017 fire, then on to a ridge passing by several lakes.  The lunch spot is ideal.  June and Jerry decided to go for a swim and ended up swimming across the lake, which was farther than it looks.  After a restful and long lunch we headed back to the cars.

It was interesting to note that after 5 years since the fire, there is finally starting to be some green plants taking hold and growing nicely.  It is obvious that the area had received rain recently because the normal trail dust did not exist going in.  However, it was back on the way out.

On the way home, we passed a Great Pyrenees dog standing in the road around mile marker 4 o 5 on DIM looking very confused.  We decided to stop and see if we could help find the owner.  Several tried to get close to the dog to see it’s tag.  Then someone stopped and said they think they know who owned the dog.  Barry made a call and the “village effect” was in gear.  With help from Sabin, the dog finally got into the passerby’s truck and it was on its way home.  That was a great way to end the day.
