West Side of Lost Creek Lake 1-7-22

We headed off geared up for rain and couldn't find any, no doubt due to my magic poncho. Ther hike started from just west of the dam. The Rogue River Trail was in great condition, with very little mud. The highlight was the bridges. A few weeks ago, I had done the hike on Wednesday and the streams were all but dry. This time they were full of water and gushing down the hills to the Lake. A great time for pictures.

As planned, we hiked for two hours and looked for a good lunch spot with suitable lunch logs. On the way back we found a better spot for next time, overlooking a fast running stream and a bridge. The stream would have been dry a few weeks ago.

The weather kept improving and the temperature was around 50 degrees by the end of the hike.

Prior to the hike we stopped at the fish hatchery so I could show everyone the part of the hatchery where you can see big fish, close up. You descend to the tanks, staying on the left past the museum building. On the left are some smaller circular tanks teaming with large fish.

After the hike we adjourned to 4 Daughters in Medford and its soft chairs for some beer, fries and deep fried pickles (Frickles). I was pleased to find they now stock Smithic stout, far superior to Guiness.
