Lost Creek Lake - West Shore 11-1-21

Photos by Bob

Our hike to Viewpoint Mike was killed by a sign at the TH. Both that trail and the trail from Lewis Road to the Blue Grotto are closed because of logging.

Ever flexible, we changed the hike to the west side of Lost Creek Lake. There was very little rain, no wind, and the fall colors were in full force. Just short of the turn for the Grotto there is a sudden drop off that is usually easy to negotiate however today it was a slippery, muddy mess that would have required a sizable and difficult detour. We decided that completing the last quarter mile or less wasn't worth it.

We found some logs on the lake for lunch. We also found a very old cross that was unmarked and looked like someone had been buried there. Stones had been placed to deter scavengers.

After a great hike we headed home, only to run into a traffic mess just beyond Shady Cove, Apparently a big rig had turned over in the middle of the road further on. We retreated to Miguel's restaurant in Shady Cove and added some calories.

Note: we were delighted to have Carol Mockridge back with us for the hike, after her recovery from knee operations. True to form, she spotted a bald eagle, high in a dead tree. The rest of us would have missed it.
