Lost Creek Lake Boat Launch to Needle Rock 1-13-16

Photos by Dan and Mike

We had temperatures in the mid-40s today with overcast in the morning giving way to light rain at lunch giving way to heavy rain on the return to the TH. We found that the recent storms had toppled many of the large madrones and oaks along the paved lake side trail which made for interesting going in places.

As we started up the slope to Needle Rock we found that a new skid road had been cut in on the SW side and we followed it up about 150' until it ended at a pad. Initially, the going was easy, but the mud on the cut slope was both sticky and slippery so we transitioned over to the woods and headed up over the leaf and pine needle debris with only the occasional backward slide. Lunch was taken on top with nice views of the lake.

For the descent we opted to head back down the SW slope through the woods instead of our original plan of going down the steep power line cut on the NE side which we supposed would be slippery because of its openness to the elements.

Refreshments were taken at Buffalo Wild Wings.

n.b. During happy hour at Buffalo Wild Wings the prices of the 22-ounce beers are the same as the 16-ounce beers.
