Lost Creek Lake - Boat Launch to Catfish Cove 3-20-17

Photos by Bob and Nanci

Once again your Monday hikers (8 in all) ventured forth to meet the elements but the elements were nowhere to be seen. We laughed off a mere sprinkling of rain and were rewarded with some sun in the PM. Rich took credit for this act of God and we accorded it as a leader's privilege. Elliot came out of hibernation and put up a good showing.

We left from the Stewart Park Boat Ramp parking along a paved trail (yes I said paved) along Lost Creek Lake.  Along the way we spotted a beautiful waterfall just off the trail and stopped to take pictures. Nanci found a gorgeous trillium next to the waterfall and we took the group pic without anyone falling in. We were relieved when Bob asked us to squeeze together rather than back up. Later we stopped at a beach to see some Canada Geese, whereupon a few quips followed at my expense. Canadian eh?

We later crossed Payton Bridge and Rich spotted an osprey and two nests at our lunch spot on the beach. Once again the leaders brought impeccable chocolate but the osprey preferred salmon.

On the return trip we had one steep and long hill to climb and taking a breather at the summit, I gave Mike Bowman a nasty Germanic-looking pen knife we had found. He then regaled us with a tale of how he had once slit a throat on a roadside to restore someone's breathing, We all did our best to demonstrate strong inhales and exhales as he still held the knife. I quickly changed the subject to King Ragnar's death on the Vikings, being dropped into a pit of venomous snakes. That seemed to quell the group's bloodlust and we continued on.

After an RT of about 9 miles and more vertical than expected, we retired to Buffalo Wings for a libation. Darryl mentioned he was heading on a cruise to Mexico and we assured him there were no walls at sea, but he might have to pay for a net.
