It snowed Monday morning in Ashland, but your Ashland Hiking Group was full speed ahead for a hike to the Grotto Falls at Lost Creek Lake.
When we arrived at the Lewis Road TH the rain and snow had stopped and didn't return, and the clouds eventually broke up to let in some sun.
The 30s at the start of the hike gave way to the mid-40s for a pleasant day on the trail.
The forest for our hike along the lake shore was a brilliant green...a theme for St Patrick's Day.
And, the new bridge recently opened was a delight and gave us a crossing across a roaring creek.
Water rolled down the trail, but for the most part, could be stepped around.
We climbed the trail up to the roaring Grotto Falls, which were fuller than any of us had seen before.
And, of course, the high canyon walls of the Grotto were green in honor of St Patrick's Day.
We had an early lunch, while some climbed down by the creek and some climbed higher up for a better view of the Falls.
The hike was 5+ miles round trip and when we returned to parking we visited with the Park Ranger and reported a few downed trees.
It was an inspiring day on the trail.
