Nine left Rite Aid at 8:00 AM with a slight morning rain on our way to Kangaroo Lake in California. It's about 75 miles each way and we met Randy and Linda in the parking lot for the lake.

The Autumn weather was cool and breezy with temps in the 40s at the start of the hike up the Fen Trail (600').

After our initial climb, we came to the overlook of Kangaroo Lake and had our group photo taken there by Randy. Continuing up, I asked Jerry to take the lead up and over the ridge that meets the PCT on the downhill side of the rocky ridge.

We saw faces carved out of granite outcroppings and dried Madrone deadfall.

There wasn't the abundance of flowers from spring and summer but the Darlingtonia ( Pitcher Plants or Cobra Lily ) were seen wherever there was running water.

We had views of the Trinity Alps and Marble Mountains and overlooked Robbers Meadow on our way to Bull Lake.

We arrived above Bull Lake about noon and watched from our lunch spots as Linda descended 300' to the lake. After her lunch, she navigated an old trail around the lake.

As the clouds began to lift during lunch, parts of Mt Eddy then Black Butte and Shasta were revealed. After lunch, Jerry and Michael ventured up the peak rising above Bull Lake.

Seven of the group headed back after lunch and took in the views of the glacier-carved Kangaroo Lake. Some there were trying their luck at fishing and at least one of our hikers chose to soak her weary feet in the alpine water.

It was cloudy and windy in the morning but we never got any rain and coming back in the afternoon the clouds broke up to let in the sun and warmer temps in the 50s.

On the day, the seven had hiked about 8 miles with about 1000' of gain.

As we were about to get on I-5 heading north, the peak of Mt. Shasta was revealed above the clouds. It was covered with fresh snow!
