Bright sunny day with temperatures warming up to about 40oF. The road up to Fourmile Lake was mostly clear except for the last 1/2 mile or so which had several inches of snow. We also had 1" to 2" of snow in many spots along the trail.
When we arrived, there was a front loader working to clean up the driftwood which had accumulated along the shore at the TH. Probably planning to burn it this winter or spring.
We had nice views of Mt. McLoughlin as we worked our way north along with pretty lake views. For lunch we split into two groups; the manly men sat on logs in the cool shade on the south end of Long Lake while the more sybaritic hikers made their way north to the top of the lake to bask in warm sunshine. It was somewhat difficult to get this latter group started again after lunch.
We had planned to stop at Alex's on the way back but found that they don't open until 4:00 PM so we stepped next door to Louie's to enjoy our beer, regular fries, sweet potato waffle fries, onion rings and jalapeno cheese poppers.
