Hikes to Little Songer Butte and on the Quarry Trail @ Emigrant Lake 11-8-21

Photos by Gary, Patricia and Rich

The morning fog lifted and 9 hikers met at Rite Aid parking for our hike outing at Emigrant Lake. We would do two short hikes, first a 3 mile loop out to Little Songer Butte (2,400'+). Where Liz and Tony braved the blustery winds and climbed the big boulders for a photo opp. And then a 4 mile out and back on the Quarry Trail that included the lunch stop in the sheltered elbow of the trail; sampling ripe Rose Hips for their first sweet followed by tart tangy taste; and finally a brief walk through a Frisbee Golf Course.

The day was breezy with temps in the 50s feeling like 40s, but all were dressed for the weather and no rain fell.

Our group returned to the Greensprings Spur parking lot refreshed and exhilarated from our walk in the wind.

And we had finished our day's hiking by 1:30 pm, happy and asking about next week's hike to Grizzly Peak.

The two hikes covered 7 miles (18K steps) and about 400' gain.

We were happy to welcome back Tony, who's been backpacking and who offered suggestions for future scouting trips around Mt. Shasta.

Happy Trails!
Rich
