Garfield Peak 8-5-19

Photos by Bob and Steve S.

Once again we hit perfect weather for our hike. There was no fog on the Peak and the temperature about 75 degrees with some refreshing breezes from time to time.

We were delayed a bit in starting as they were painting new lines on HWY 62 and there was significant line at the Park gate. FYI they were matching senior passes with drivers licenses. Parking wasn't an issue near the Lodge but might have been later in the day. There was much traffic on the Garfield Peak Trail but we were taking our time with stops for shade to cool down and to catch the breath. It is all climbing to the Peak.

The views were spectacular and the Lake a deep blue. The sky was very clear and we could see the surrounding peaks in all directions. By luck I claimed the only shade tree for lunch and after a group photo we made a quick descent. This was a new hike for the Monday Group and was much enjoyed.

After the hike we made a tour on the Rim Road then headed off. A few of us stopped at Rocky Point and were told it was closed but they sold us some beer and let us use the terrace overlooking the water. We arrived home to 100 degrees at Rite Aid and were glad to have escaped to the high country.
