Crater Lake Flower Hike 7-13-18

Photos by Joe and John

I arranged this flower hike, partially to escape the heat in Ashland, but also to see Crater Lake in the summer from the Ridge. 7 of us, including 2 groupies, left early and were on the Castle flower hike by 10 AM. The flowers were simply spectacular. I have never seen so many flowers in a small space. Unfortunately the mosquitos were also spectacular so we completed the hike in a hurry.

After the short hike we did the circuit of the lake, stopping here and there to take pictures. We did a short hike up to see the Phantom Ship. The weather was perfect and the color of the water deep blue, with just a few ripples. Lots of reflections.

After lunch at a picnic site we headed to the Lodge for refreshments and sat on the terrace. By this time the hoards had descended on the Lodge but we managed to park and find seating overlooking the Lake.

We headed home, watching the temperature rise as we lost altitude, going from 80 degrees to 105. We stopped in Shady Cove to buy some baby back ribs which proved to be delicious.

When you live near a natural wonder you need to go and see it a few times a year.
