Azalia Lake Pass 6-17-15

Photos and Track by Ron

It was another beautiful day for a hike. The driving description near the end needed a little refinement but we found the trail head and a few mosquitoes. We quickly lost the mosquitoes once we got underway.

The hike leader came upon a fork in the trail and had not remembered it from his previous hike so regrouped to pause there to consult the map (in Bob’s pocket up ahead) and Gary’s GPS track before deciding to take the lower or left trail. It turned out to be the correct decision.

The trail is in good shape up to the saddle. There is a little narrowing on up from there but not the slit in the bushes that we had experienced on previous hikes.

When Bob reached the ridge where the 2011 hikers turned to the left he chose to go to the right and to the top of what he saw there. He came back down to a lower large outcropping of rocks for lunch with the rest of us. There was a very nice breeze as we enjoyed our lunch. Bob does deserve the extra credit for close to an extra mile of hiking.

Refreshments were had again at Boomtown. The gal there had our order memorized
